Having launched its latest flagship smartphone in many markets around the world, South Korean consumer electronics company, LG Electronics, has now introduced the device in Taiwan. According to reports coming out of the island nation this Monday, LG has chosen to market the LG G5 as the LG G5 Speed in the country, and it is currently available exclusively on local carrier Chunghwa Telecom. The device comes with model number LG-H858, and even though it’s named differently, reports seem to indicate that the G5 Speed is essentially the exact same device as the standard-issue G5 that’s being sold in most markets globally, except for the fact that the Taiwanese model supports LTE-A carrier aggregation. As for the price-tag, Chunghwa Telecom has listed the handset on its website at NT$23,900 ($740).
LG had originally unveiled the LG G5 back at the Mobile World Congress trade show back in February this year. While Samsung had also introduced its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones at the same event in Barcelona, the G5 is believed to be one of the very first modular smartphones from a tier-1 manufacturer. As a refresher, the LG G5 features a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display panel that comes with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (QHD). As mentioned already, it features a modular design and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC, which happens to be the latest high-end processor from the American chipmaker. The chip comes with an integrated quad-core CPU with custom Kryo cores clocked at a maximum of 2.15 GHz along with an Adreno 530 GPU.
The rest of the tech specs are also fairly impressive, seeing as the device sports 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. There is also a microSD card slot that can support cards of up to 200 GB in capacity. As for the cameras, the rear-facing primary camera on the LG G5 is a 16-megapixel shooter, while the front-facing selfie-cam is an 8-megapixel unit. The phone comes with a wide array of sensors, including a fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, compass and barometer. The device also comes with USB Type-C connectivity, with support for dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The LG G5 comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow pre-installed and carries a 2,800 mAh battery.
