The galaxy S7 is a cool phone but make no mistake, the LG G5 is a much cooler phone with its modular design. Samsung stuck to the same formula of IP68 rating and expandable memory slot to go with the premium design. But the G5 outdid the galaxy S7 with it removable bottom that is dubbed as “magic slot”.
the G5 matched the galaxy S7 spec to spec and offers more. This is the first of the modular phone design that will be norm in the near future. Google’s project ARA (concept modular phone) hasn’t seen the light of the day yet and this is as close as we can get to the future.
LG has stated that the magic slot will be have several accessories in the future but the one’s available right now are the special Bang & Olufson accessory that will transform the phone into a device the audiophiles will love.
The second accessory is the camera module with dedicated camera button and zoom slider. This accessory has an inbuilt 1100mah battery that can extend the battery life of the phone by up to 50% and also help you in taking excellent photos.
So how is it better than the galaxy S7?
Well for starters the G5 has a metal body like the S7 but the removable bottom can also remove the battery and pop in a new one. there is a dual camera setup in the back to take excellent photos and also the wide angle photos.
Like the galaxy S7, the G5 also has an always on display that will actually save the power. You will not have to unlock your phone every time you receive a notification. The glance screen will get you that information and saves the power that will be required to activate the phone’s display from the sleep mode.
Sure, the phone does not have an upgradable processor or RAM or the memory, but the modular concept is much cooler right now than 2 years into the future. I am eager to see how the third party developers will utilize the magic slot and create some never before accessories.
