Earlier in the year, LG launched the LG G Flex 2. The G Flex 2 follows on from the original G Flex in offering a large, flexible display and a self-healing (to a degree!) plastic chassis. In the case of the G Flex 2, LG reduced the screen size down to a 5.5-inch P-OLED screen and increased the resolution up to 1080p, or 1,920 by 1,080 pixel resolution. Under the skin, the G Flex 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which is the eight core, big.LITTLE, 64-bit, 2.0 GHz flagship processor from Qualcomm. It’s backed up by 2 GB of RAM, and carries 32 GB of internal storage memory plus a MicroSD card. Around the back there’s a 13MP rear camera complete with LG’s improved optical image stabilization, dual LED flash and laser autofocus. There’s a 2.1MP front facing camera for selfies and video calling and an internal, non-user removable 3,000mAh battery. As regards network technologies, the LG G Flex 2 includes the as-expected radios for a modern flagship device and comes with 4G LTE-A, high speed WiFi and 3G radios, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1 (the Smart Ready Apt-X standard) plus SlimPort. The G Flex 2 is powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop under LG’s custom user interface.
Of course, the word, “Flex” in the G Flex 2’s name hints that the design is flexible. The body and screen is flexible from a radius of 400mm to 700mm across the front, sides and back, plus the top to bottom edge. Whilst it’s something of a party piece, it means that the G Flex 2 (and the older original G Flex) have a certain unique appeal and the handset is being launched in India today at a price of Rs. 54,990, the equivalent of £570 or $870. So, yes, the G Flex 2 is an expensive device! It’s available in two colors, Flamenco Red and Platinum Silver. The G Flex 2’s high price puts the handset in direct competition with other flagship models such as the Galaxy S6 and (bendable) iPhone 6 Plus. The G Flex 2 has a very interesting design and party piece plus some great features.
LG Mobiles India’s Business Head, Deepak Jasrotia, said this about the new device: “LG G Flex2 is as beautiful to hold as it is to behold and it represents the perfect combination of beauty and brains. We are pleased to have Anil Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri join us today to share their experience of using this one of its kind smartphone and officially launch it in India. The G Flex2 is a beautiful, high performance and a highly desirable smartphone that offers users both comfort and style.”
