LG today announced a new 5.2 inch Full HD panel for smartphones. According to the company, this is the world’s slimmest Full HD LCD panel – only 2.2 millimeters.
The new panel uses LG Display’s Advanced One-Glass-Solution (OGS) – “the latest touch technology enabling an enhanced touch screen experience, developed and applied to the new panel for the first time ever.” Moreover, it has a a brightness of 535 nits (at maximum), while “measuring contrast in real-life surroundings with Ambient Contrast Ratio results in a reading of 3.74:1 based on 10,000 lux, confirming the perfect performance of the panel even in strong outdoor sunlight conditions.”
While the press release announcing the panel doesn’t mention LG’s upcoming Optimus G2 smartphone (seen in leaked photos yesterday), Korean website Yonhap News reports that the new flagship handset will use this 5.2 inch display (it’s not the first time we’re hearing the G2’s screen would have this size).
The G2 will be officially announced by LG next month, on August 7, in New York City.
