LG UX 4.0 is the newest version of LG’s custom overlay for Android. LG says that its updated software will appear first on the G4 and that it will then trickle out to other devices. The focus of LG UX 4.0, according to the Life’s Good crew, is to offer a simple, streamlined, and customized user experience.
LG UX 4.0 includes several photography goodies. There’s Quick Shot, which lets you double click the volume down button on the back of the phone to quickly activate your phone’s camera, even if the screen is off. LG also mentions an Expert Camera Mode in its UX 4.0 announcement. And after you’ve taken some shots, the Gallery app in UX 4.0 can understand when and where you took photos and automatically combine the images into an album.
The updated LG user experience also includes new features that are meant to tailor the software to you. Smart Board is a feature that can gather information from various apps on your phone, like calendar, music, and health, and then show that info in a widget to make it available at a glance. There’s also Smart Alerts, which learns about your lifestyle and the environment to provide customized notifications. For example, LG UX 4.0 can know that you like to run and if it knows that there’s some good weather coming, it can say things like “Nice weather in store for today. Get those legs pumping with a run outside.”
When it comes to looks, LG UX 4.0 looks like a modest update to the software that came with the G3 last year. Instead, LG has focused on making its user experience more personal and easier to use. It will be interesting to see how the software learns about its user and just how accurate features like Smart Alerts end up being.
The LG G4 is expected to make its debut on April 28.
