LifeProof, the makers of waterproof and shockproof FRĒ series of smartphone accessories, has announced the launch of its rugged cases for Samsung’s latest flagship phablets – Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. According to the press statement released by LifeProof, the cases are available for pre-order starting today, although, there seems to be no specific time frame for the shipments to begin. LifeProof also says that this is the first time the company is offering cases for curved-screen devices. The company’s cases are all advertised as being waterproof, dirt-proof, snow-proof and drop-proof. Which is just as well, given how a number of commentators have pointed out that the devices are especially vulnerable to severe damage when dropped.
As per the listing on the LifeProof website, the Galaxy S8 cases cost $79.99, while the Galaxy S8 Plus cases come with a price-tag of $89.99. There’s also one extra color on offer for those looking to buy a Galaxy S8 case. While the cases are being offered in Asphalt Black, Second Wind Grey and Sunset Bay Teal for both phones, there’s also a Twilight’s Edge Purple case on offer for the smaller device. It is important to note here that while there’s no ETA for the official launch yet, the company says that all pre-orders will be shipped free-of-charge to Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Indonesia. Taiwanese, Australian and New Zealand residents, however, will have to pay a flat $9.99 shipping charge.
LifeProof has traditionally been known as a maker of high-quality rugged cases for Apple’s iPhones and iPads. However, the company does make products for Android devices as well, including Google’s latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel and the Pixel XL. As for its latest offerings, LifeProof says that these cases for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have been designed specifically for the two devices they are being marketed for and, meet Samsung’s exacting standards for performance and reliability. Hence, they have been certified by the South Korean multinational, and carry the company’s ‘Designed for Samsung’ logo. While aftermarket third-party accessories for popular smartphones are a dime-a-dozen, these rugged cases certainly make sense for the Galaxy S8 duo, as they’re believed to be fairly fragile and, their screens are said to be expensive to replace.
