The iPhone 6 has been out since September, but LifeProof has yet to release compatible cases. For fans of these waterproof, snowproof, dirtproof, and shockproof cases, nothing else will do. Today, LifeProof finally released iPhone 6-compatible cases. Well, sort of.
You see, there’s a catch. Only those with select email addresses are going to be able to buy iPhone 6-compatible LifeProof cases today. If you have previously signed up with LifeProof to be notified when the new iPhone 6 cases became available, you should have an email in your inbox that will let you buy a new case from LifeProof.
Earlier this morning, LifeProof mailing list recipients got an email from the company. The email contained the graphic below:
Quantities are limited, and LifeProof is selling their cases on a “first come, first served” basis. Only two cases will be sold per customer. And just like people used to joke about old Ford cars, you can get the new LifeProof cases for the iPhone 6 in any color you want…as long as it’s black. For fans of the more brightly colored LifeProof cases, you’ll have to wait a bit longer before your dream iPhone 6 case becomes available. It’s not yet clear how long it will take for LifeProof to have large quantities of all phone case colors available online and in-store.
LifeProof offers two main types of cases for the iPhone line. The Fre has a built-in screen protector, while the Nuud case has no screen protector at all. Both cases are waterproof, but some people feel more secure when using the Fre.
You can sign up at LifeProof’s site to get notified when more cases become available. You can expect new iPhone 6 LifeProof cases to start appearing at stores near you in the coming weeks. Sites like Amazon should also have the cases in stock fairly soon. It is not yet clear when an iPhone 6-compatible version of LifeProof’s famous LifeJacket accessory will go on sale.
