Some games slip through the cracks when they release, but sometimes they’re good enough to come back to if we missed them the first time around. LiquidSketch is one such game that delivers a unique puzzle experience all about liquid. The highlight of the game is the liquid physics engine, with the most authentic liquid physics engine on iOS that is just a joy to interact with. The liquid responds exactly as you would expect, and it’s quite a treat to see it splashing against walls, flowing through corridors, and smashing in other liquids.
All of the liquid flows into a boat load of intricate puzzles with 90 included spread over six unique interaction methods. You get to tilt, add blocks, use touch, operate pumps, and much more all in an attempt to transport a liquid across the screen. The heart of the challenge is getting enough liquid to fill the goal at the end of the level with so much potential to lose liquid along the way. There are also some challenges that require you to blend colors to form the specific color of the fill box. The challenges feel a bit like transporting liquid in the classic Nickelodeon shows Double Dare, and Wild and Crazy Kids as the contestants had little to work with to put enough liquid into the bucket to reach the fill line.
There’s such a rewarding challenge as you progress, and every single level is like fresh squeezed orange juice. There’s also a sandbox mode allowing you to craft your own level creations while interacting with the wonderful physics engine. The craftsmanship that went into LiquidSketch is rarely rivaled in the App Store, and it really makes you appreciate your time with the game. There’s so much to enjoy as you watch the liquid splash about the screen as you try to move it along to just the right place with various tools along the way.
LiquidSketch ($1.99, iPad) leaves us gushing over the brilliantly designed liquid, and level flow making it a should buy.
