When knights try to invade your castle from above, it’s best to hire a wizard. That is especially the case in the new iOS game Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire, where you get to play as the wizard. The game comes from the makers of Icebreaker, Gunbrick, Roller Polar, and more retro stylized iOS challenges, and Magic Touch fits right in line. While it looks familiar, Magic Touch offers a whole new way to play that revolves around touch. The invading knights come riding in with balloons, and each balloon has a specific shape that you need to draw to pop that balloon.
It’s always nice to come across a game specifically made for touch, and Magic Touch does an excellent job at gesture recognition. There are all kinds of shapes to draw with the variety increasing as you go, and the game always recognizes what you’re drawing. The recognition system gets out of the way to let you focus on the extreme challenge at hand. You end up frantically drawing these shapes with multiple knights on screen at once with some holding a few balloons for even more shapes to draw. Your goal is to simply keep the knights from touching the ground, but the knights falls quickly, and you need to be quick and precise to keep all of the knights away.
Every knight you dispose of helps you earn coins that you can use to unlock new magic spells to help you survive that much longer. You will gain the ability to slow down time, call a lightning bolt, and launch bombs with each one tied to a new shape to draw. The game is an endless high score challenge, but since the upgrades offer permanent new abilities, there’s incentive to keep playing. Also, there’s an inherent engaging nature to restart as soon as you lose with such a compelling challenge. It’s frantic fun that everyone can enjoy, and it’s all made for your flowing fingers. You can even use both hands at once to show your ambidextrous skill, and better handle the numerous knights on screen. Also, in case you’re wondering, the game is free to play with a single in-app purchase to remove ads.
Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire (Free, Universal) delivers excellent crafted touch based enjoyment that is a must have.
