BEIJING, China – Smuggling of iPhone and other Apple devices in China has been rapidly increasing and is now serious problem in the country.
Chinese police arrested four individuals with a total of 222 iPhones trying to barge in Mainland China through Hong Kong only within a span of half an hour. One of the men was carrying about 66 iPhones strapped to his body.
Even though Apple does not have a considerable market share in China officially, it is still desirable by many. The problem seems to be arising owing to tax rates as in Hong Kong they are quite low on electronic goods in comparison to China. This makes smuggled iPhone a lot cheaper than going the legal route.
The recently caught smugglers tried to cross borders between Shenzhen, China and Hong Kong with a number of Apple iPhones strapped to their bodies. The police finding them rather stiff and uptight decided to body-check them thus leading to the discovery of one of the many ways Apple phones are brought within the borders.
