Marvel Comics are turning to Android in order reverse declining print sales with an Augmented Reality app.
The Marvel AR app has been designed in partnership with the forthcoming Avengers vs X Men series and will offer a behind the scenes glimpse into each comic’s production.
“The AR app will show readers what the editor was thinking, what the writer was thinking, 3D extras, and pencil art,” commented Marvel’s digital chief Peter Phillips.
Android owners will be able to download the free Marvel AR app from 2 April, while Avengers vs X Men #1 hits all good comic stores on 4 April.
Whether or not this app does turn out to be the saviour of physical comics, we think it’s a great idea and, if done well, should marry two tricky mediums in an innovative new way.
