If you’re a fan of Apple’s products, it’s hard not to get caught up in the inevitable hype leading up to a keynote address. Despite all the leaks, all the blog posts and all the endless analysis, a new iPhone still somehow seems fresh and new when Apple finally pulls back the curtain, but not everyone was impressed with the company’s latest reveals.
YouTube personality John Elerick is going to buy an iPhone 6, but he’s not happy about it. In his latest video, Elerick cuts through the baloney to get at the heart of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch and even the new Apple Pay service.
He starts off with what will likely become a common complaint for many longtime iPhone users — what if you don’t want a big phone? Samsung has built a market around the phablet, but plenty of iPhone owners are happy with their 4-inch displays. Unfortunately, if you’re part of that crowd, you’re going to have to upsize when you upgrade.
Elerick also points to one of my personal pet peeves: Apple’s naming convention. This is not the sixth generation of the iPhone line. Just call it an iPhone or pop the year in front of it.
Moving on to Apple Pay, Elerick runs through all the reasons why Apple’s new mobile service won’t be able to replace your wallet. He also notes that the Apple Watch doesn’t do anything a phone can’t do. No one wants to see your photo album on a 38mm tall screen.
