Meizu has definitely been one of the most interesting companies to keep an eye on this year. This China-based company has managed to sell 20 million devices this year, which means they’ve increased their sales 350%. The company sold ‘only’ 4.4 million units back in 2014, which puts things into perspective. Meizu has released some interesting devices this year, and their PRO 5 flagship is actually the only non-Samsung handset to sport the Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor.
That being said, we’ve seen a number of PRO 5 Mini rumors in the last couple of weeks, but Meizu still didn’t release any official info about it. This smartphone quite probably won’t be announced before the end of the year, but according to a new leak, it might arrive in April 2016. Now, during China Mobile’s (Chinese carrier) press conference, various things were revealed. First and foremost, the carrier has probably revealed when will Galaxy S7 and Huawei P9 launch, if you’d like to know more about that, click here, as we’ve already covered this news. Well, it seems like China Mobile’s conference also confirmed that a new Meizu-branded handset will land in April 2016. Now, the company’s info says that the device will be priced between 1,500 and 3,000 Yuan ($231 and $463), which suggests we’re looking at the PRO 5 Mini. This pricing is too high for the company’s ‘Blue Charm’ aka ‘M’ line, so the PRO 5 Mini’s arrival makes sense, even though we have expected it to arrive sooner than that.
The Meizu PRO 5 Mini will, according to rumors, feature a 4.7-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM. The 16-megapixel shooter is said to be located on the back of this smartphone, and the device will quite probably sport a fingerprint scanner as well (inside a physical home button). The PRO 5 Mini will almost certainly going to be made out of metal, and the device is said to sport MediaTek’s Helio X20 64-bit deca-core SoC on the inside. Now, this spec leak might be accurate, but it’s also possible that the device ships with identical specs to the original PRO 5, which means it might be powered by the Exynos 7420 SoC and sport a 21-megapixel shooter on the back. Either way, we’ll find out in a couple of months it seems, stay tuned for more info.
