Problem #1: Galaxy S5 fails to send MMS and Pinterest app keeps freezing
I send a picture in a text and I get a symbol & message that it was not sent. When I click on the symbol it reads resend outdated picture.
It was only happening on multiple pictures but today it did it on a single picture.
I’m also having an issue with Pinterest…the screen goes blank when you hit the back button & I’ve had to restart the device to unfreeze it. — Sherry
Solution: Hi Sherry. Each carrier sets a limit in terms of file size for MMS so make sure to check with your own carrier if you are going beyond.
Another possible reason for this problem may be due to the messaging app you’re using. Try deleting it’s cache and data before sending another MMS to see the difference. To do that, just follow these steps:
Go to Settings.
Proceed to Applications.
Select Manage Applications.
Tap the All tab.
Look for your Messaging app in the list and tap it.
From there, you will see the Clear Cache and Clear Data buttons.
This same method can be applied to your Pinterest app.
Problem #2: Galaxy S5 unable to send MMS to an iPhone 5
My Galaxy S5 will not send MMS messages to an iPhone 5. Everytime I try to send it says “Invalid destination address”. I have updated my SIM, checked that my data was in, soft reset the phone and everything. NOTHING WORKS! But the weird thing is, is my phone will send mms to an iphone 6. I don’t know what is going on. — Arika
Solution: Hi Arika. If an iPhone 6 can receive your MMS, the problem is not on your end. MMS service is not phone specific so the issue must be on the receiving iPhone 5. Tell the owner of iPhone 5 to troubleshoot the issue on his/her end. You can refer him or her to an Apple forum thread for more specific things to do.
Problem #3: Galaxy S5 no longer able to download MMS via mobile data
Ever since the Lollipop update a couple months ago, my phone no longer downloads picture messages or any group messages unless I am connected to Wi-Fi.
Before the update, it would download regardless if I was connected to Wi-Fi or with just the phone data. Other apps and browsers work fine on the data, it’s just the MMS functionality this has been affected. Please help! — Ana
Solution: Hi Ana. Since something changed after a firmware update, we suggest that you wipe the cache partition to ensure that there are no corrupt cache hindering some functions of your device. To do that, simply do these steps:
Turn the phone off.
Press and hold the following buttons together: Power, Volume Up and Home.
Release the buttons once the Android system recovery menu appears.
Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache Partition option.
Press the Power button to confirm selection.
Select Reboot System Now option after deleting the cache. Wait for the phone to reboot.
If wiping the system cache won’t do anything, restore the default settings of your S5 via factory reset. This is an effective method in solving firmware-level issues.
Important: A master reset will erase everything off the phone’s primary storage so make sure that your personal files (photos, videos, contacts, etc) are saved somewhere before proceeding. Here are the steps to do:
Power down the Galaxy S5.
Press and hold the Volume up button, the Home button, and the Power button together until you see the Android on screen.
Use Volume down to highlight the wipe data/factory reset option and press the Power button to select it.
Use Volume down again to highlight Yes – delete all user data and press Power to select it.
Use the Power button to select Reboot system now.
When the S5 restarts it should be completely wiped and ready to set up again.
You also want to ensure that all the APN settings on your S5 are correct so try to call your carrier for the correct configuration.
Problem #4: Galaxy S5 gets delayed SMS or Group text messages
I sometimes do not get texts in a group text… others in the group will receive the group text. I’ve tried both the Samsung and Verizon messages apps, seems both to be not getting the text message….I feel out of the loop trying to figure out what someone is responding to. Also, sometimes my text show up after the person has replied to my text…make sense?. Like they already replied to my text before I sent it… — Nav
Solution: Hi Nav. If this issue happens inconsistently, the reason might not be on your device but at the network level. SMS and MMS delays are almost always network-related. What many of us don’t realize is that carriers are not obligated to send SMS and MMS on time. These communication service we have so much relied on for the past several years is still unreliable due to a number of factors and what carriers can do is to attempt best-effort support for their subscribers.
If possible, contact your carrier and let them know about the situation so they can help you directly. To help them figure out what may be the problem on the network, try to give them as many details as possible including the time of day, patterns, names of apps, etc.
Problem #5: Galaxy S5 with iPhone SIM does not send SMS to recipient
I recently transferred from using iPhone 4s to Samsung S5 and I’ve had a few problems with my service. The phone is from America from Verizon. However, my phone carrier is Live Connected in Australia.
The issue is when i send texts, the recipient does not receive the text. However, the message is displayed as ‘sent’ on my phone. I’ve deregistered from iMessages already and it has worked previously.
Also, a message which appears when i turn on the device is “Unfortunately, VZWAVSService has stopped”. Thank you for helping! — Joy
Solution: Hi Joy. We need more information from you to be of help. Please provide the answers for these things listed below so we can update this post accordingly:
How many contacts are not receiving your text?
What are their devices?
What messaging app are you using?
Are the recipients using iMessage for text?
Do they experience possible network-related issues on their end?
Can you send and receive your own text message on this S5?
Have you tried using a different SIM card on this S5 to see if the issue is SIM-card related?
VZWAVSService is an app from Verizon. Make sure that you force close or disable it to prevent the annoying pop up from returning.
Problem #6: Message+ on Galaxy S5 not receiving text messages
I use Message+ for texting. I have had numerous problems with getting back replies in group texts that either I start or I am a part of. I have called Verizon twice and stopped in my local store once and they try a few things. Basically though, they are clueless.
Example: I sent out an important group message today to 7 people and did not get one of their replies back even though they ALL replied back to me. The message is set to Group MMS and if I look under the recipients list, recipients reply to “Group” is chosen. I am at a loss. I know that Apple does not play well with others but there has to be some solution! Any advice is greatly appreciated! — Crystal
Solution: Hi Crystal. Message+ is a Verizon-supplied app and we have no idea how it works so the best thing that you can do in this case is call technical support. Keep in mind that sales reps in Verizon stores may not be necessarily trained to handle technical issues or product-specific queries like yours. Make sure that you talk to the right department, especially, if possible, to the team that handles feedbacks and complaints about Verizon apps.
Wiping Message+ cache and data (steps provided above) may also help you in this case so try to do it before calling Verizon.
Problem #7: Galaxy S5 no longer able to attach a photo to SMS after an update
Ever since I updated my phone, I can no longer attach a photo with my text messages. For example: I click on the “paper clip button” to attach an image, I then go to my photos, I then select a photo….and the only option I have is to send it. There is no way to attach the photo to my text messages. I can only send the photo by itself. “Send” is the only option available.
Also, I use to be able to add a slide to my text messages. I can’t do that anymore either.
Please help. Thank you! — Kat
Solution: Hi Kat. What messaging app are you using? Try to wipe the messaging app cache and data, then delete the cache partition. You may also need to perform a factory reset if the two solutions won’t make any difference.
Problem #8: Next SMS app on Galaxy S5 delay in sending and receiving SMS
I general like to use Next SMS for all my texting needs. However, there have been times when I will type and send a message and it may take as long as 30 to 45 minutes for the message to send. Same for receiving messages. Some times it takes forever for me to get a SMS. However, if I go back to the stock Messaging app the issue doesn’t happen. Any ideas. I have also had the same issue with GO SMS. — Sean
Solution: Hi Sean. Looks like the issue is isolated to Next SMS app only. Try to re-install the app and wipe the cache partition and you should be good to go.
Problem #9: Galaxy S5 sometimes unable to send SMS via Verizon Message+
Good Morning. I’ve been trying to find a solution to this problem to no avail. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 through Verizon. I’ve had it for about a year and 7 months. I’m using the Message+ software that comes with the phone and is Verizon’s default messenger. I’ve had no issues with it up to this point.
Recently, I found out that some of my texts were not being received by a few of my contacts. This seems to be a random occurrence and not linked to size or type of message. One word messages have just as much chance of not being received as a two or more “page” message. When I send the messages it always says “sent” and never gives any errors or other indication that it did not go through. I have powered off my phone and powered it back on several times. I have tried switching to airplane mode and back. This issues occurs when connected to Wi-Fi and when not.
I did a factory reset about a month and a half ago for other issues, but at the time this text issue was not present. I have also completely uninstalled the text software and reinstalled to see if maybe I had missed an update. None of this works. Any assistance or advice you can provide is extremely appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely. — David
Solution: Hi David. Were you able to send text messages to these contacts before? If yes, the issue may be network-related — either your network fails to deliver the message, or the recipients’ own network were not able to deliver your text. SMS is a two-way street and networks of sender and receiver must be working at the same time for the system to work.
Try using the stock messaging app for a few days to see if there’s a noticeable difference. If the problem persists even when not using Message+, then the issue is most likely beyond you. Make sure to let your network know about it, or ask your friends to call theirs for a resolution.
