Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a bonafide hit, and its first records are already being set. The game is hardly putting up the same launch numbers as Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto, but within the context of its own franchise, Konami must be pleased with its performance so far.
In an astounding slaughter on the console war front, the PlayStation 4 version accounts for 72 percent of the game’s total physical sales in the U.K. Chart Track reports that the Xbox One makes up 22 percent of the remaining sales, and the rest have been scattered across the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
It did not report stats on the PC version or any digital sales due to the information not being available.
Chart Track also reports that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the best selling launch in the series’ history, selling 37 percent more than Metal Gear Solid 2 did when it showcased the PlayStation 2. However, sales still fell short of Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, making it the third best U.K. launch of 2015 so far.
