Microsoft is listening to feedback surrounding the Xbox One "every single day" in an effort to improve the newly launched system's features and functionality, according to Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.
"When we look back and look at what we've done, we want to continue to adapt the system to what gamers want," Hryb told Canada.com. "The team that works on Xbox are gamers themselves. We want to build the system that we use and that we know gamers would enjoy using."
One fan has created a feedback database for the Xbox One, offering suggestions about how the system's user interface, controller, and Kinect can be improved. Some changes to the Xbox One operating system are already in the pipeline, Hryb revealed.
"We're going to continue to refine the system and make it what the Xbox fans are expecting and what they want," he said. "We're listening to the feedback every single day. I've already seen some changes in the operating system internally with what we're building."
Also in the interview, Hryb touted the Xbox One's all-in-one entertainment nature as one of the system's strongest selling points.
"There's no reason why you can't have an extremely powerful game console that also does entertainment. Why does there have to be an 'and or?' We need to be able to have something that's both," Hryb said. "When that console isn't being used for playing a game, that means perhaps the gamer wants to watch some streaming media. Why not design a system that can handle that as well, and switch between the two?"
Finally, Hryb recalled Microsoft's controversial decision to include a Kinect camera with every Xbox One, calling this choice a "bold decision."
"It enables certain scenarios like everyone having access to voice, gesture control, and of course the games being able to count on it being there," he said. "It's part of our overall system improvement and approach, as we continue moving forward and refining the technology."
