I came across a company, Minbox, that thinks the multibillion dollar enterprise file sync and share market is undergoing a dramatic paradigm shift. As they say, it’s a change that’s been looming on the horizon for a long time.
What’s happening is that files as a concept are dying off, rendering services like Box, Dropbox, and Google Docs somewhat irrelevant. So, where’s this trend heading? The Minbox team thinks that the files of the future aren’t ones that sit on your desktop or even in a folder. They think that everything is moving towards the cloud.

Mimran and his team built Minbox to, first and foremost, make it easy to connect multiple clouds and mange content. Secondary to that is a dedication to wrapping it all up in a slick UX that’s, as they say, vehemently anti enterprise.
For example, let’s say you have a marketing campaign on the go, but you have three Google Docs, a Dropbox folder, Asana tasks, and an Invision project. Everything has been managed via links in emails so far, but Minbox can organize and keep everything up to date in a single folder.
“We’re quickly approaching a future where files as we know them no longer exist,” says Mimran. “The writing has been on the wall for a while now. Competitors that are rooted in the desktop are getting left behind.”
Any business can sign up for an account, invite colleagues, connect their clouds, and custom brand their workspace for free. Files themselves can be uploaded directly or via a preferred cloud connection, which stays in sync with its source.
