In a move certain to make rabid fans of Monty Python (such as your humble narrator) even more insufferable, Melcher Media has announced that Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days will be released as an iPad app to coincide with the March 6th, 2012 release of Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu Ray.
That sound you heard was millions of geeks exploding with delight at the thought of watching the film and supplementary material in 1080p, while reciting every. single. line. with. it.
But I digress. Holy Book of Days is chocked-full of supplementary material that lets the viewer experience the 28 day shooting schedule of Grail, and features never-bef0re-scene material contributed by the Pythons themselves. Quoth the press release:
“Every page of Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days is packed with Python history, from Michael Palin’s day-by-day diary of the filming, to Terry Gilliam’s storyboards, to the original continuity sheets covering every shot, to 360° views of actual props and costumes from the movie.”
What’s more, if you own the app, the Blu Ray disc and have a wifi-enabled Blu Ray player, you can use the iPad as a remote, allowing you to go from reading about a scene on the tablet to viewing the scene on your TV. Sony is also offering a $5 rebate if you purchase both the disc and the iPad app.
The price for the iPad app has not been announced, but it is described as being over 1 GB in size and will contain:
More than 70 minutes of never-before-seen video, including outtakes and visits to filming locations
Interactive 360° props and costumes
More than an hour of audio, featuring rehearsals, songs, sound effects and your favorite quotes from the film
