Motorola Moto E Second Generation is getting the unexpected Android 6.0 Marshmallow love. In a surprising move, the company has pushed out a major update to its entry-level handset, the Moto E 2nd Gen. The software update is being rolled out in the form of an OTA (Over-the-Air). As per the reports, the update is currently available for telecom carriers; Telus and Koodo network handsets, while other networks like Wind and Videotron are yet to see this major update.
For a major software upgrade, this OTA file seem to be half the size of what has been rolling out to mid and higher range handsets. Maybe it’s got to do with the hardware and all, although, what matter is that this affordable handset is getting the software update for the stable release of the Android Marshmallow, which is the latest major OS in the market right now.
Transitioning from Android Lollipop to Marshmallow won’t change much in terms of the visual design, but you’ll see some UI tweaks in the Settings app. This update also includes the Android security patch level for February. If you have received the popped up notification for the update, then tap on “Yes I’m” and downloading of the file will start. After the downloading is finished, you will be asked to install the update. Make sure the device has a battery level of more than 50%, which ensure that installation process would not be interrupted.
Note if you haven’t received the update yet, and you’re on the two networks for which the roll out has already been started. Well, then you would have to try out the manual update option. To do so, just head over to the Settings app on your device and then tap on the About device. Now you’ll see a Software update option, tapping on it will open a new window, you have to further tap on Update option, and then it will search for it. As soon as you see the notification, just follow the steps mentioned in above paragraph and you’re good to go.
