The Moto X Play isn’t getting an official launch in the U.S., but you may still be able to use the device on AT&T and T-Mobile. A Canadian version of the new smartphone launching on Friday appears to work with both of the carriers.
Droid-Life points out that the Canadian Moto X Play includes GSM support along with LTE for T-Mobile (bands 2, 4 and 12) and AT&T (bands 2, 4 and 17). Of course, getting your hands on the device will still be tricky unless you have a friend in Canada willing to help out. Otherwise you’ll be paying some pretty high shipping fees or making a trip up north to buy the new phone in person.
The Moto X Play looks like a pretty sweet handset, and we’re still not sure why Motorola isn’t selling it in the U.S. directly. It packs a hefty 3630mAh battery, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a 21-megapixel rear camera, 16GB of expandable storage and a water-resistant design. You get all that for just $299, which is $100 less than the Moto X Pure Edition will cost when it launches next month.
Hopefully those LTE bands mean Motorola is planning on releasing the Moto X Play in the U.S. soon as well. For now though the Canadian variant is probably your best bet.
