Last week Motorola announced it would be holding a special event on May 17th in New Delhi. While no specifics were mentioned, it was largely believed that the event would focus on the upcoming next-gen Moto G (aka Moto G4). All but confirming this belief, Motorola India has now started teasing users on Twitter that a new handset is “coming soon”.
Motorola doesn’t clarify what phone we will be seeing, but instead uses a series of somewhat odd “missing person” style tweets to hint that this upcoming phone will be focused on improved battery life, security, performance, and camera.
As you can see in some of the sample tweets below (you can see them all here), Motorola was clearly aiming for a playful approach to their latest teasers, though they arguably come off as a bit awkward and unrelatable. I mean who proposes to their girlfriend via text? Certainly not the way I did it, but to each their own I suppose.
#MISSING since he was about to propose a girl he likes.
Motorola might not be giving away much in the way of details right now, but thankfully the rumor mill has helped fill in a lot of gaps for us. Reportedly the Moto G4 will arrive with either a Snapdragon 430 or 435 in tow, alongside 2GB RAM, a 13MP rear cam, and a 5.5-inch 1080p display. There’s also supposedly a ‘plus’ model that features the same screen size oddly enough, but instead upgrades the camera to 16MP.
What do you think, excited to see the next-gen Moto G? With a growing number of competitors in the budget market, does Motorola still have what it takes to retain its title as the king of affordable handsets?
