Not even a month ago Motorola and Verizon began rolling out the biggest update to the Motorola Droid Turbo yet, Android 5.1 Lollipop. Now it looks like members of the Motorola Feedback Network are already beginning to receive invites for a soak test on their Droid Turbo. Said soak test invites reportedly started hitting users last night and today some people who aren’t even involved in the soak test have begun receiving the same software update on their Droid Turbo.
Not much is currently known about the update other than it is a minor one, at least you can assume as much based on the software version. More specifically, the software version of the Android 5.1 update for the Droid Turbo is 23.11.38, the soak test software version is 23.11.39. Based on the update being minor and the fact that Verizon just pushed the Lollipop update to the Droid Turbo less than a month ago, this soak test is likely just a fix for a bug that was found in the Lollipop update. Also, since the Lollipop update for the Droid Turbo is still rolling out this new software update will probably take its place from here on out.
Luckily, Verizon is usually pretty good about posting changelogs for software updates that hit their devices on their website. So if you would like to take a look at what new things Android 5.1 brings to the Droid Turbo you can do so by clicking here. Some of the biggest additions that the 5.1 update includes are Material Design, improved notifications, and Smart Lock.
So, all in all, this soak test update that seems to be hitting some users of the Droid Turbo is likely nothing more than a small bug fix update. Although, at the same time this update should not be treated insignificantly. If Motorola saw it as important enough to begin rolling out to some users it must fix something at least somewhat important. Needless to say, if you own a Droid Turbo and have a chance to get your hands on the update, you should probably do so.
