Motorola has been busy recently with a pair of newAndroid One devices on the way and the Motorola P30 launching in China. Now, the company has announced the Motorola P30 Play on the company’s Chinese site. It features an iPhone X-style notch and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 system-on-chip, a favourite of many smartphone manufacturers even today. The Snapdragon 625 is revered for being one of the best Qualcomm SoCs thanks to its efficiency and performance, which is why we’ve seen the chipset in so many devices.
With that Snapdragon 625, you’ll also get 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. On top of that, you get an about-average 3,000mAh battery.
However, the Motorola P30 Play features a pretty premium design with an all-glass 2.5D casing. It has a 720 x 1520 resolution IPS LCD 5.86-inch display with a notch. Motorola claims that this particular smartphone has a pretty convoluted production process. The phone’s entire design is very reminiscent of the iPhone X, right down to the dual camera configuration. Speaking of cameras, the Motorola P30 Play features a primary rear 13MP f/2.0 shooter with a secondary rear 2MP shooter. Motorola called this an “AI camera”, though it’s not really clear what that means yet. The front-facing 8MP f/2.2 camera boasts the ability to identify the user’s sex, age, skin colour, skin quality, and other features. It can automatically adjust its beautify feature based on your face, and it’ll also support facial recognition.
According to MyDrivers, we’ll be seeing the Motorola P30 Play sold on today in China for a price of CNY 1,899 (~$278). It’ll come in two different colours: black and white.
