Nope, this is no joke. About seven months after the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update started rolling out for the US Wi-Fi Motorola Xoom, owners of Xooms in the UK finally have something to smile about. Yes, this update has now reached those shores. Furthermore, both Wi-Fi-only and 3G-capable Xoom models are included in the rollout, so everyone should be tasting an Ice Cream Sandwich soon enough.
The reason why this update took so long to make it across the ocean is that the Wi-Fi-only Xoom sold in the US counts as a ‘Google Experience Device’. That makes it almost Nexus-like in that Google’s Android software engineers handle the updates to that tablet themselves.
For Xooms sold elsewhere in the world (as well as those available through Verizon in the States) it’s a different story, with Motorola’s guys being the ones bringing such updates about (or not bringing them). From that point of view, the lateness of this update is nothing new or earth-shattering for Motorola, so you should really be happy. And not ask about Jelly Beans.
