Today, we are reviewing the Muvit Wallet Folio case for the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. Overall, we found that the case offers a good level of overall protection, whilst also doubling as a stand and is reasonably attractive too.
This particular case is available for £22.99 from Mobile Fun, who also stock a wide range of other Xperia Z3 Compact cases. This Muvit Wallet Folio case comes in four colours (black, white pink and purple) – we are reviewing the striking pink version. Click through to read our full thoughts.
The packaging description appears to have been copied from a different handset as the latch does not fold back as suggested.
The front and rear case is made from a smooth polyurethane material. The case itself is simple and elegant and the pink colour case we are reviewing looks almost red in some angles. The case has a latch which is nice to see, as not all folio cases do have them.
The cover has slots for two credit cards on the inside, whilst the lining is made from a soft micro fibre material.
The Muvit case has a tailored plastic (polycarbonate) cradle, which the Xperia Z3 Compact clips into.
The soft micro-fibre-type lining on the inside ensures that the phone will not get scratched once the case is closed.
The case is able to hold two credit cards on the inside cover, but there is also an additional pocket which can fit another card.
The case provides a good level of protection, only the right side of the handset is exposed. However the edges of the case extend past the phone which means if the phone does fall on its side, it will hopefully still be protected.
There are adequate cut outs for both the camera lens and flash. We noticed no issues with light bleed when taking photos using the LED flash.
The top of the handset has holes for the headphone socket and mic. You may have an issue getting a thick 3.5mm headphone jack fitting past the plastic, but most earphones should be fine.
If you use a lanyard, you’ll have no need to worry here as there is a hole here too.
The whole of the left side is exposed which means you can access the charging ports and microSD memory card slot without issue. If you have a magnetic charging cable, this can also be used with ease. However, we found that the plastic back plate meant that it would not fit comfortably into the magnetic charging dock.
All edges of the handset are protected with the polycarbonate shell. The handset appears firmly in place, we haven’t seen the phone slip out over several weeks of use.
The latch has a small magnet inside to ensure it closes the front cover. However, it doesn’t fold back in landscape mode, which means it is likely to annoyingly stick out whilst watching media. There is no sleep/wake function with this case either.
The stand functionality works as you would expect. You can angle the handset at various angles, with minimal fuss. In the picture below you can see the latch sticking up, with no way to fold it back.
Some of the pictures perhaps do not do the Muvit Wallet Folio case justice – we found it to be an elegant and lightweight case. The folio case protects the front screen from falls and also enables you to use it as a stand. We have been using the case for several weeks on our Xperia Z3 Compact and have found it has kept the handset in very good condition.
A screen wake/sleep feature would have been nice, but we like the fact that all ports are accessible including the magnetic port (for those with an appropriate cable). We also like the fact that it has a magnetic latch that can keep the front cover closed.
