Blackberry and Samsung have been friends for years now. These corporate buddies help each other in fulfilling their software and hardware needs. This is evident in the Samsung Knox business software that it builds with a little help from blackberry who is renowned for security in its phones. Samsung in turn supplies blackberry with its displays and memory chips. The dual curved AMOLED display in the blackberry priv is from Samsung. Now there appears to be a mysterious blackberry device in works that sports the Samsung’s own exynos 7420 previous use in devices such as the note 5 and galaxy s6 edge.
But make no mistake, this isn’t a second rate device that blackberry plans to flood the market with. The specification indicates a high end premium business device that runs android 5.1.1 lollipop powered by the Samsung’s exynos 7420 octa core cpu clocked at 2.1 ghz. There is 3 GB of ram coupled with 32 GB of internal storage. The display is a QHD 5.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1440×2560. A 16 MP Schneider-Kreuznach optic camera and a 5 MP front snapper is provided. The device will have the model number STV100-1 and is attributed with the code name “Vienna”
Another details about this phone is that blackberry might not ditch its legendary keyboard in this phone. However unlike in the priv, this keyboard will not slide and will be placed below the screen.
Blackberry has recently converted its phones into android devices with a hope that the company’s growth engine will be reignited. The result of this effort is the excellent blackberry priv, a security focused android device that cost $700. This device received critical applause but the cost was rather too high. My guess is that blackberry is building a more affordable android device that can sell in volumes that it desires.
