Navigon, the navigation app company which was recently bought by Garmin, has announced an “effortless and intuitive” update for its Android and iPhone apps at IFA, in Berlin.
MyMaps looks the most promising of the new functions, allowing users to select the map regions they want available on their smartphone rather than wasting precious hours and data by downloading them all. Regions are divided into those Android owners need immediately and those that can wait for later when connected to a wi-fi network at home.
Restaurant ratings and reviews from Zagat are also available as an in-app purchase alongside live speed camera warnings. There’s also a Reality Scanner, which provides a way of identifying nearby destinations while out and about on foot.
The entire range of Navigon apps are available to download now from the Android Market. A similar Windows Phone 7 app is to follow soon.
