The HTC Droid DNA wasn’t released all that long ago. It was one of the first handset to include a full HD 1080p display, and it was available on Big Red (that’s Verizon folks).
Droid DNA owners are looking to the skies for a critical software update, especially one that includes the latest version of HTC’s software Sense 5.0. The recently announced HTC One will be the first handset to incorporate the Sense 5.0 UI right out of the box. Most of the other handsets running HTC Sense, including the Droid DNA, will have to wait for a software update to release.
Once again, the brilliant minds over at the XDA-Developers forum have come through for the community. A custom ROM running Sense 5.0 is available for the Droid DNA, right now before the HTC One is even available on the market. That’s some pretty quick work guys and gals!
Perhaps the best part of this news, however, is that the Sense UI is working and fully functional on the Droid DNA, save for a couple extraneous features. The features that do not work are the following: the Zoe Media Collage Software and the MMS messaging system.
What does work? Well, it’s best to lay it all out for you in a neat list.
Phone Data 3G/4G
Calls and Texting
GPS and Navigation Support
MicroSD Expansion Slot
USB Mount/ Mass Storage
So there you have it! Instead of waiting around for an official OTA update, why not give this custom ROM a try? It should be noted that this is a Beta release which means the developer is still ironing out the kinks and problems with the software.
That being said, after checking out the demo video of the new ROM (included below) I can honestly say that it looks pretty darn responsive for a Beta. The community is usually pretty good with this kind of thing, especially the folks over at XDA. There’s still the always obvious “I am not responsible for anything that happens to your device” disclaimer though.
