Create avatars in the backdrop of a chat, and control them with hashtag commands
Text doesn't always do justice to the message you want to send. There's times when we all wish we could be a little more expressive when an emoji just won't cut it. Now a little-known Finnish app house called Firefly think they have the answer.
Welcome Rawr Messenger, a fascinating combination of messaging and Xbox-like avatars that's clearly designed for teens. This free iOS messaging app depicts avatars in the backdrop of a conversation that can react according to hashtag commands.
Rawr allows users to create an avatar to their own liking, and have them interact with another user’s avatar by using commands like #kiss and #twerk. Both you and your friend can see the entire conversation and the avatars interacting with each other.
The app has more than a hundred animations, expressions, and emojis you can use to chat with friends, and with Rawrers around the world (not a million miles from Nintendo's social game Miitomo then). Safety has been kept in mind though; identities are anonymous, users can stop a conversation at any time, and can report other people.
Rawr will also heavily focus on what’s trending in the real world - new animations “and items” will be made available for trending real-world events. Think along the lines of when Beyoncé unveiled Lemonade - you can expect avatars to drink lemonade, when users refer to the album.
It's early days for Rawr, but if you're obsessed with hashtags, emoji, and kicking friends virtually, then you'll probably love it.
