The new iPad is finally on its way to China, it seems. That comes after Apple’s cleared the major hurdle preventing it from bringing the new tablet to the market in the mainland – Proview’s famous lawsuit. That’s now been settled, with Apple agreeing to pay $60 million as compensation for the use of the iPad brand (which Proview owns in China).
With that out of the way, it’s now only a matter of a few weeks before Chinese customers can get legally-sold new iPads. The release date is July 27, according to MyDrivers‘ sources. The prices will be the same as they’ve been for the iPad 2, borrowing Apple’s pricing tactics from the US and elsewhere.
That date relates to Wi-Fi-only models, apparently, since it’s still unclear at the moment if new iPads with mobile data connectivity will be sold in China or not. But they probably will be (perhaps later on), since Apple did get a network license from the relevant Chinese authorities for that in May.
