Stéphane Richard, CEO of France Telecom (which owns the Orange brand) has reportedly talked about Apple’s upcoming iPhone earlier today, declaring the following: “if I believe what we’ve been told, the iPhone 5 will be out on October 15.”
Now, it’s not quite clear who exactly told France Telecom this (since none of the French websites that reported on the matter – see here and here – are providing too many details), but it’s probably fair to assume it was someone from Apple – since major mobile carriers usually get this type of info directly from handset makers.
It’s also not clear if this alleged launch date is also correct when it comes to the US market. But let’s hope it won’t be long until Apple finally discloses its new smartphone’s official release date.
As a reminder, this year may be the first when three US carriers could all sell Apple’s iPhone, as Sprint will apparently join AT&T and Verizon in launching the new iPhone 5.
