Apple released the latest update to iOS today — iOS 8.3 — and one of the main feature upgrades is the addition of hundreds of new emoji icons. And in a strange move, Apple made it so that if you send one of the new emojis to an iPhone that hasn’t been upgraded to 8.3, that emoji will turn into an alien on the receiver’s phone.
More importantly, the new version of the OS offers improved performance, a new keyboard design, and a bunch of bug fixes. It’s available right now as an over-the-air upgrade.
The emojis of human faces now come with a pop-up bar that lets you set the skin tone of each one. There are also several new flag icons and updated phone, computer, and Apple Watch, iMac, and iPhone emojis.
The emojis are reorganized so it’s easier to scroll through them and find the one you want.
With the update, Carplay users can now connect their phones to the in-car infotainment system without the need of a cable.
In Passbook, there is now a division between the Apple Pay stuff and the passes.
The ability to place calls using the iPhone’s speaker phone is also added.
New support for Google two-factor authentication makes it possible to add new Google accounts without the need for separate app specific passwords.
