Nintendo just announced the impending release of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, set to come out Feb. 13 for $199.99.
If you’ve been thinking about getting one, there’s something you need to know before you dive in: The New 3DS XL does not come with a power cable.
For those of you that own any of the 3DS, 2DS, or DSi systems, that won’t be a problem. Your cord is already compatible. If you own an earlier system or maybe were waiting around because the system’s 3D capabilities weren’t quite working for you, however, you’ll need to pick one up separately.
This marks, I believe, the first time a company has released a system without a charging cable in the U.S. If it had replaceable batteries, it wouldn’t be an issue, but while Japanese consumers are apparently used to this practice, it may be confusing to buyers here.
Our excitement for the New Nintendo 3DS XL hasn’t waned, but if you want one, go in knowing you may need to pick up a charging cable, too.
