Earlier today CrackBerry posted a very cool Android developer prospective of life as a BlackBerry developer just 48 hours after his application ‘Solar System Explorer‘ went live for the BlackBerry PlayBook.
I caught this developer’s love story after @BlackBerryDev posted a tweet on the story earlier today. Then headed to CrackBerry and got the skinny. After spending a half hour with my boys fighting over Solar System Explorer I decided we’d better share a post too!
From the head image you might not think as much of this application as I do. But just a few seconds navigating around the Solar System on your BlackBerry PlayBook.. and I guarantee you will have an instant change of heart. It’s a very surreal experience and the PlayBook is the perfect host for this type of adventure.
Before I get ahead of myself, check out what Neil Burlock [Android developer] wrote about his experience with the BlackBerry community after just 2 day..
“..I have to say that I’m very surprised at how warmly received Solar Explorer was on the Playbook.
In the 36 hours since the app went live, Solar Explorer has been downloaded approximately 150 times for the Playbook, with about 100 of those in the last 24 hours.
All I can say is: “wow!”.
Android Market sales never came close to that level in the 10-or-so months it’s been available. The best day it ever had was back in early December 2011 when about 45 sales resulted from a huge update to the app that included a major overhaul of the graphics.
Sure, I know it’s probably just the honeymoon period of a new app and sales will settle down once it’s disappeared off whatever “Just In” list App World has, but it’s still a stunning result to see it sell more than twice the copies on it’s first full day on App World, compared to it’s best day on Android Market.” – Neil Burlockhttp://apps.burlock.org.
If that doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, then go pick up the Solar System Explorer app for your PlayBook. It’s only $1.99 in BlackBerry App World & it’s worth all 199 pennies.
