If there’s one thing that really shows the beauty of Android, it’s the 3rd party development community. Guillaume Lesniak, one of the founders of the Custom ROM by the name of OmniROM has revealed a proof-of-concept video on his Google+ page showing a Nexus 5 unlocking itself upon hearing the hotword “Hey Snapdragon” similar to how it works on the Moto X. This is all possible because of the dedicated low power DSP with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC found in the Nexus 5.

Unfortunately, this feature is not going to be available to the public anytime soon possibly due to legal issues with Qualcomm as the low power listening API is only open for OEMs at the moment. I really want this feature implemented by Google so I wonder if the next version of Android has it enabled by default.
