The Nexus 6 isn’t small. In fact, it’s one of the bigger phones we’ve seen all year, and we’ve seen a lot of really large devices. But it’s important to note that, even though it sports a 5.96-inch display, the phone actually isn’t that much larger than some of its big phone competition. Similar to other Motorola-made devices, the Nexus 6’s screen size is marvelously deceiving relative to actual dimensions , meaning the overall footprint isn’t quite as large as you’d think.
When we talk about phones, we typically think of them by their screen size. The iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen, while the Galaxy Note 4 has a 5.7-inch display. Two very different sizes, but the overall dimensions of each phone is relatively similar. With an even bigger 5.96-inch display, you’d think the Nexus 6 was much bigger than both, when in fact it’s about the same. You can see in the pictures below just how close the three are.
We’ve actually seen Android devices handle bigger screen sizes really well while keeping device dimensions down. It means you’re getting smaller bezels, and ultimately less distractions around the content you’re viewing onscreen. Remember the G3? I has a 5.5-inch display—same as the iPhone 6 Plus—yet it’s remarkably smaller. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen, meanwhile, yet it’s really tall compared to the Moto X (2013), which has the same size display.
The point is that, while the Nexus 6 is big, it’s not significantly larger than some of today’s popular big phones, yet you get more screen. Yeah, the Nexus 6 is still a pretty big phone, but when using it it’s really not that much bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus or even the Galaxy Note 4; it’s just something to think about if you were truly turned off by the Nexus 6’s 5.96-inch screen. Sure, the display is big, but the overall dimensions are a different story.
Listed below is the devices that appear in the above video, along with their overall dimensions. The only thing you might say about the Nexus 6 is that it’s definitely thicker than some of its counterparts, though it does sport a beefy 3220mAh battery; we’ll take a slightly thicker phone with a bigger battery over a wafer thin phone that can’t last through the afternoon any day.
