According to a new rumor, the upcoming Nexus 7 successor which will break cover in the second half of 2014 will be manufactured by ASUS for the third year running and will feature a slightly different hardware specs sheet. If the rumor is to be believed, the tablet will sport an 8 inch display and an Intel made chipset. The timeline falls well in line with the expected arrival of Intel’s 64-bit Bay Trail chips for Android tablets, so this could be pretty legit.
But we’re not sure if Google will be willing to risk it with a relatively new Intel chipset while it can just as easily go with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip which will be ideally preferred by manufacturers, so take this rumor with a pinch of salt for now. There is still close to seven months for the launch of the Nexus 7 successor going by last year’s announcement date, so a lot of things could change by then. But an ASUS made 8 inch Nexus tablet (with a high res display) has a very nice ring to it. The Intel Bay Trail SoC will certainly be something to look forward to if the rumor turns out to be true.
