You can now install the Android M developer preview 3 on the Nexus 9. This is the third and final 'test' version of the new Android software before Android Marshmallow is released later this year. There's no real risk involved in flashing the developer preview on your device, though there will be some bugs – just follow the simple instructions in our How to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on a Nexus article to get it running on your Nexus 9 now.
Nexus 9 Android 5.1.1 update
If you haven't yet received Android 5.1.1, feel free to do the button mash by hitting Settings > About Tablet > System Update. If you want to manually flash the factory image, just hit the Nexus factory images page at Google Developers and follow our tutorial to get Android 5.1 on the Nexus 7. Just substitute the downloaded file for the Nexus 9, and Android 5.1 for 5.1.1.
