Nielson has come through for Android and supplied us with the news we all need to hear. Android is growing faster than iOS. Take that Apple — you are not better, you are just mediocre in the world’s eyes. Nielsen’s newest report shows that, as smartphone adoption continues to grow in the US, Android is rising in popularity and holding a slight edge over its largest competitor iOS. This popularity comes at the expense of smaller companies like Blackberry and Windows, which hold steadily declining portions of the growing smartphone market.
The report shows Android and iOS are both growing within the expanding market, with Android at a staggering 51.8 percent over Apple’s miniscule 34.3 percent. Meanwhile, Blackberry ownership has fallen to just 8.1 percent, and only 4 percent of new adopters are choosing Blackberry products. Microsoft has also seen just as dramatic of a decline, dropping 4.3 percent.
Android is blowing away the competition and growing faster. 54.6 percent of new subscribers choose Android phones, and 36.3 choose Apple. Here are a few graphs to show these powerful results.
While, it may be some time before Blackberry and Microsoft fall completely off of the map, it definitely looks like the power is on our side of the fence now, and even the mightiest of mighty can’t stop Android from taking over. Eat it, Apple.
