Nintendo, it turns out, has considered the idea of an F-Zero game for the Wii U. This is a racer that diehard fans would love to see return, and it seems the company at least explored the opportunity over the last few years.
Nintendo Life has it that Nintendo even approached Burnout studio Criterion to work on an F-Zero title. F-Zero would have been revealed in 2011 alongside the Wii U, and the rest would have been history.
Nintendo Life explains that Criterion was asked to show a playable build of the game at that year’s E3, and that the full version would have to be released fairly quickly. The only issue was that Criterion was working on Need for Speed: Most Wanted (a solid title in and of itself), and they couldn’t commit to another project with Nintendo.
The site even went to confirm the word with Criterion founder Alex Ward. Ward explained that all this did, in fact, happen.
An F-Zero game on the Wii U at or near launch? What would your opinion of the console have been then?
