SEOUL, South Korea – Samsung has officially raised curtains over the matter saying that the company does not plan to roll-out the KitKat update for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy S III Mini.
Samsung Galaxy S III Mini
Earlier Sprint, for its Galaxy S III that boasts a 2GB RAM, had rolled out the KitKat update, and there were speculations that the international variant will too get the chocolate treatment.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S III mini have 1GB RAM, but would not be able to run KitKat smoothly.
Samsung’s claim of RAM shortage for smooth working of KitKat might raise questions as to why other Samsung devices having only 512MB RAM still run the latest Android version. The answer is that these devices run on stock Android without any kind of added features or bloat that Samsung offers. Moreover, the versions that run KitKat, have a lighter version of TouchWiz.
It might be a bit of a disappointment, but Android 4.3 Jelly Bean stays as the last update for Galaxy S3 owners.
