As we have seen in the past few months, smartphones with large displays, or phablets, are gaining popularity at an astounding rate. Beginning with Samsung’s Galaxy Note line and eventually bleeding over into their upcoming ‘Mega” smartphone line. Now, Nokia is reportedly jumping on the bandwagon and developing a phablet to rival those coming from Samsung.
According to Taiwanese news site ‘Digitimes’, sources have revealed that Nokia will be releasing their very first phablet in 2014. While the site is known to be a little hit or miss, they insist that their sources close to Nokia are reliable.
In addition to Nokia joining the phablet club, we have seen other companies attempting to claim their place in the six-inch-display league. The likes of Huawei’s Ascend Mate, LG’s Optimus G Pro, and ZTE’s Grand Memo all sport screens of about 6 inches.
If Nokia does decide to break into the phablet industry, it may be their smartest move yet! As of late, the Finnish company has shown no interest in making full-blown tablets, so this could truly be the key to their success and growth.
There were no further details from Digitimes about the pricing or release date, but as always, PhoneBuff will be here to keep you posted on any details as they develop!
