While Symbian, known as Belle OS in its last days, is dead for while, it’s not yet completely buried. Nokia has started rolling out software updates for most of its Symbian smartphones that were released in 2011 and 2012. Included are the PureView 808 (with its awesome 41MP camera), the Nokia 700, Nokia 701, Nokia 603, Nokia X7 and Nokia 500.
The update brings new homescreen widgets: Webview widget (detailed here), Mirror widget (won’t work on handsets without a- front-facing camera), Stopwatch, and Contacts Communication (providing a quick access to a favourite contact – for messaging or calling).
All About Symbian says the new homescreen widgets will most likely be available to older Nokia Symbian devices as well – but not older than 2010. So there is hope for those who are still using handsets like the Nokia E7, C7, C6-01, or X6 (all these were introduced in 2010). Basically, if you have (or can have) Symbian Bell Feature Pack 2 or Feature Pack 1 on your smartphone, you should receive the new widgets at some point.
