Samsung has received a lot of bad press recently after it confirmed a global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 due to a battery cell issue. The recall was confirmed after reports of the battery inside company’s latest flagship exploding emerged, Samsung looked into the matter and decided that it has to recall all units shipped till date to ensure customer safety. While it hasn’t said whether customers can continue to safely use the Galaxy Note 7 until they get a free replacement, Oculus is warning Galaxy Note 7 owners not to use their device with the Gear VR headset.
In case you’re unaware, Samsung has collaborated with Facebook-owned Oculus on the Gear VR. The company launched an updated version of the Gear VR with the Galaxy Note 7. It had to since the new flagship features a USB Type-C port.
Oculus has posted a note on its website which mentions that Samsung has issued a recall and launched a product exchange program for the Galaxy Note 7 due to battery issues. “Don’t use your Note7 with Gear VR until you get your replacement,” the company says.
It makes sense to be cautious about this since using the handset with the Gear VR will test the battery particularly and given the uncertainty surrounding the Galaxy Note 7’s batteries, it would be best to stop using the Gear VR with the Note 7 until your unit is replaced.
