ASUS didn’t just release the exciting news of a new Transformer at IFA 2013, there was also the rather delicious surprise of two new MeMO Pad tablets in flavours 8 and 10. The two come with displays that match the names – the MeMO Pad 8 with eight inches of display and the ten with, well, ten inches of display. So that explains the names then…
The MeMO Pad 10’s display is 1280×800 pixels with a two megapixel rear camera that’s capable of recording HD video and a front camera of 1.2 megapixels for video chat. The power is provided by the 1.6GHz quad-core processor and you get 1GB of RAM plus it only weighs in at a very helpful 522 grams. Your battery life is decent at 9.5 hours, and that includes video playback although probably not for the entire time. You can get two different storage sizes in 8GB and 16GB plus there are dual speakers boasting the awesome ASUS SonicMaster audio technology built in.
The MeMO Pad 8 is a slightly lower specification and, I assume, aimed at a smaller budget. You still have a really great display at 1280×800 and you still get the 1.6GHz quad-core processor with the 1GB of ram. It does however, have a higher rear camera resolution at five megapixels (the front camera is the same as the MeMO Pad 10) and the entire device weighs a puny 350g. You don’t get the storage options of the 10 at only 8GB of internal storage although both models allow for MicroSDXC cards for additional storage space.
The tablets are very pretty to look at and I think would be a stunning fit in the market, especially if they retain their very neat price point alongside these tasty specifications.
