HTC has had its fair share of troubles recently. The One M9 hasn’t lived up to consumer expectations, largely in the face of competing handsets from LG and Samsung that offer more premium features. But just how bad have shipments been? A new report suggests they’re nearly half that of last year’s One M8.
Apparently HTC has shipped 4.75 million One M9 units in three months, down 43.75 percent from last year’s One M8 shipments. The figure comes from China Business Journal, which was cited by the not-always-accurate DigiTimes. Part of the problem, it seems, is that HTC’s handsets are priced higher than competitors in massive smartphone markets such as China.
Can HTC rebound? The company is promising a revised flagship smartphone next time around. We love HTC’s devices, so we’re rooting for a bounce back.
