ASUS clearly isn’t content with the range of products that it unveiled at this year’s CES, as the company has already launched yet another smartphone, tablet, hybrid thing. The new PadFone E has quietly appeared on ASUS’ website, but before I could run down the spec sheet, one of the first things to leap out at me was one of the colour options – “Johnnie Walker Black”. Perhaps that says a little something about my drinking habits.
For the recovering alcoholics out there, the PadFone E will also be available in Pearl White. Although if ASUS is going down the shameless product placement route then I’m a little surprised that they missed the opportunity to name it Colgate.
Moving further down the spec sheet, the PadFone E is a dual-SIM handset equipped with a mid-range 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, a 4.7 inch 1280×720 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 13MP rear camera, 1.2MP front facing camera, a MicroSD card slot, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and a 1820 mAh battery. The PadFone E also comes with its own 10.1 inch 1280×720 tablet docking station, which fortunately houses a larger 5000mAh rechargeable battery. So the PadFone E appears to sit nicely between ASUS’s new Padfone Mini and the high-tier Padfone X.
The PadFone E will initially go on sale in Taiwan and will be price around $560. It’s not clear at this point if/when the handset will be appearing on other regions.
