OnePlus often brings some software features that it introduces with new handsets to its existing models. The selfie portrait mode was introduced with the HydrogenOS 5.1.6 beta for OnePlus 6 last month and the company has now confirmed that this feature will be released for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T as well.
The HydrogenOS 5.1.6 beta was released for the OnePlus 6 at the beginning of June. It brought the selfie portrait mode to the handset among other improvements. The front camera portrait mode does what the name suggests, takes portrait-style photos through the front camera.
The OnePlus 6 doesn’t have a dual front camera and neither do the OnePlus 5/5T. The implementation of this feature is purely software-based. That’s what enables the company to port this feature to older devices as well since there are no hardware limitations.
The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T already feature a portrait mode for the rear camera and the company has now confirmed that it’s going to release the front camera portrait mode for the handset in a future update. OnePlus made this announcement in response to user feedback during its first Open Ears Forum in India.
OnePlus has not confirmed as yet when this update is going to be released for the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
