Owners of multiple OnePlus smartphones have complained about an “oil painting” effect in the pictures taken with the smartphone. The complaints have been made by OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and OnePlus 6 owners. The company has since acknowledged the issue and confirmed that it’s working on a fix for the problem which is going to be rolled out in the not too distant future.
The reports suggest that this OnePlus oil painting effect has something to do with the HDR mode. Multiple posts from OnePlus smartphone owners on the company’s official forums suggest that they have been able to reduce its impact or even get rid of the issue by simply turning off HDR.
That’s obviously not a long-term solution since users would want to have HDR enabled to improve the quality of their photos. OnePlus has confirmed that it’s going to fix the issue in the next update.
It appears that the fix for this issue for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T has already been developed and has entered testing in the Open Beta program. So it’s only a matter of time before the company rolls out this update for these handsets. The OnePlus 6 may not be that far behind and its fix should enter the beta stage soon.
