The Red variant of the OnePlus 6 is now available for purchase in the United States, priced identically to the Silk White, Midnight Black, and Mirror Black models with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. The $579 Android phablet is likely to go out of stock soon, with OnePlus originally announcing it as a limited-edition product and having a long history of issues with maintaining its inventory.
Unlike the Lava Red variant of the OnePlus 5T, the Red iteration of the company’s latest smartphone isn’t as bright and features multiple layers of somewhat different red hues, as well as one which is entirely orange and buried beneath several other panels so as to give a shinier look to the device. The new version of the OnePlus 6 hence features half a dozen glass plates in total, including an anti-reflective layer meant to simulate a greater sense of depth despite the fact that the smartphone itself is relatively thin, having a diameter of only 7.8mm.
Launched this spring, the OnePlus 6 quickly ended up becoming the company’s fastest-selling device to date, with the Shenzhen-based firm shipping over a million units to consumers all over the world after only three weeks. While both of its 2017 devices managed to hit the same figure, each of them took nearly three months to do so, with the success of the OnePlus 6 suggesting the Chinese original equipment manufacturer is now gradually moving toward mainstream popularity less than half a decade since being established. The company’s ambitions are continuing to grow at a comparable pace, with OnePlus recently disclosing it’s negotiating wireless carrier partnerships in the U.S. which may come to life as early as 2019. The OEM is also presently working on at least one 5G-ready Android smartphone that it also plans to release at some point next year, whereas its next product is likely to debut in the form of the OnePlus 6T in the final quarter of 2018.
